In 38 states in America, it is completely legal to be fired simply because you are transgender. I was flipping through the notes on this and reading so many people express their shock and surprise. I wish I had the privilege to be shocked by this.  Heartbroken,terrified, devastated, but by no means shocked.  The state does not want us employed.  The state does not want us housed.  The state does not even want us alive. This is not news.  And this is not a broken system. This is the system working like a finely tuned machine, exactly the way it was designed.
